Ada Brabant Obituary

Ada Jo Schouten Brabant, formerly of Deckerville, Michigan, peacefully passed on July 17, 2021, at her daughter's home in Prestonsburg, Kentucky at the age of 107. Ada was born to Arie and Tryntje (Hycoop) Schouten on March 16, 1914, in South Dakota. Her family, including her parents; brothers, Tony, Herman and Arie; and sister Elizabeth (Bessie), had immigrated to the United States from Holland in 1910. All preceded her in death. In 1934, Ada married Elton "Pete" Brabant of Deckerville, Michigan, who was stationed at Ft. Meade, South Dakota. They returned to Michigan in 1937 where they remained to raise their children, Leroy Elton (Ellen), Ronald Duane (Dorothy), Kenneth Ray (Debra), and Nancy Jo Johnson (James).

Ada and Pete settled on Range Line Road and ran a used car parts business as well as a sand and gravel business for many years at that location. She was active in the Child Study Club and the Rebecca's holding offices in both. Ada also worked during this time at the restaurant of the local Bowling Alley and the IGA in both the meat department and the bakery. At age 80 she decided it was time to do other things. She continued to grow her many flowers, travel, read, and crochet. Gorgeous, framed doilies she made during winter months grace the walls of her family's homes. At 96 she told her daughter she had just planted 120 petunias that day but might have to go get more as there was a spot in the yard still needing plants. In 2011 she moved to the Upper Peninsula to stay with son Ken and wife Debbie. Then in 2013 she relocated to Kentucky to her daughter Nancy and husband Jim's home in Prestonsburg. While she chose to leave behind a life on her own, she continued to be fiercely independent caring for herself, making her bed and making her breakfast every morning until just a few days before she passed. In fact, she still baked cookies well past the age of 100 because they were so much better than anything bought at the store.

Preceding Ada in her death in addition to her parents and siblings, were her husband Pete, son Leroy and wife Ellen Brabant, son Ronald and wife Dorothy Wilma Whyte Brabant, son-in-law James Johnson, grandson Randy Lee Brabant, Sr., granddaughter Teresa Marie Brabant Minier. She is survived by her son Ken (Debra) Brabant, daughter Nancy Brabant Johnson; seventeen grandchildren, Dennis (Denise) Brabant, Brenda (Jim) Patterson, Terry Brabant, Janice (Dave) Bennington, Gayle Brabant, Ronald (Amy) Brabant, Stuart (Robyn) Brabant, Allyson Brabant Chambers, Roxann (Steve) Brabant Wolvin, Daniel Brabant, Jennifer (Shaun) Burton, Billy (Brenda) Foster, Kathleen Owen Richardson, Pene Johnson Miller (Mike Lehn), Amie Johnson Koci, Sam (Erika Miller) Johnson, Peter Johnson; 29 great-grandchildren, Randy Jr.(Jamie) Brabant, Tony (Jacquelyn) Brabant, Stephanie (Jeremy) Boothroyd, Michael Brabant, Jason Avery, Tanya Avery (Greg) Wagester, Jennifer (Jonathan) Evans, Emily Brabant, Jacob Brabant, Robyn (David) Davalos, Jenna Baker, Paxton Brabant, Payton Brabant, Allyssa Chambers, Marley Chambers, Jeannette (Jeff) Green, Jolene (Jonathan) Boyle, Marissa (Partner Shane) Uribe, Robbie (Brie) Wolvin, Danielle (Fiancé Neal Carolan) Brabant, Ethan Brabant, Frankie Burton, Olivia Richardson, Samantha Johnson Miller, Patrick Miller, Emily (Tony) Scearce, Rachael (Andrew) Mullins, Allyson Koci, Charlie Johnson; and 30 great-great-grandchildren, Ada Marie Brabant; Luke Brabant; Evan and Alyssa Wagester; Joshua and Anna Lee Avery; Wyatt Brabant; Charlie Davalos; Myles Brabant; Ethan Cousins; Autumn, Winter, and Audra Boothroyd; Presley and Jameson Green; June and Franklin Boyle; Reed and Hannah Wolvin; Mary Evans; Alivia, Marley, and Isabelle Burton; Braydon, Jameson and Wesson Scearce; Violet, Daisy, and Colt Baker, Ethan Mullins.
