Kathleen Mooney Obituary
Kathleen Digneit Mooney, age 71, passed away on Monday September 5, 2022, after a long bout with brain cancer at her home in Forester Twp., MI. Although cancer was the cause of her death, she also suffered for 40 years with rheumatoid arthritis. She met these challenges with great courage and endurance.
Kathy was born on Nov 12,1950 in Detroit, the daughter of the late William J. and Patricia R. (McCourt) Digneit. She graduated from Marian H.S. in Birmingham, MI in 1968 and Eastern Michigan University in 1973. She went on to become a Mat'l Handling Engr. with Ford Motor Co. and, more importantly to her, Kathy was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a fantastic "Gamma." She volunteered for activities in her children's schools, her church, the Girl Scouts and the Arthritis Foundation. After retirement she remained active in the pursuits she loved: reading, gardening, arts and crafts, traveling, volunteering for youth activities in her community and studying her family's genealogy.
Kathy was married in 1978 and is survived by her husband Tim, daughter Melissa Mooney, son Tim, Jr., daughter-in-law Kim, and grandchildren Tim III and Niamh Mooney, her sisters Anne (George) Najor, Jane (Don) Smith, Sue Tapp, and brother John (Judy) Digneit, sisters-in-law Ann (John) Oleksinski, Janice (Patrick) Ziemba, Mary Ellen (Marion) Ferrell, brothers-in-law Richard (Jean) Mooney, Robert (Cindy) Mooney and David (Donna) Mooney along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass is scheduled for October 7, 2022, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Grosse Pte. Park, MI. at 12 o'clock with a visitation period starting at 10:30 AM. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Arthritis Foundation.
Burial will be in the Forester Cemetery at a later date.
