Merle Ross Obituary
Jesus came and took Grandpa Ross home on May 26, 2014.
Merle Ellis Ross was born in Deckerville, MI on August 16, 1934 to Melvin and Lucy (Reid) Ross.
After a time in the Detroit area the family moved to Marlette where he graduated from High School in 1953.
He married Dorothy Holst on August 27, 1955. He worked at the Standard Oil and Gas, General Coach, and on the farm before moving back to Deckerville to work with his brother-in-law Henry Hodges in the bee business. In 1965 he began working for the Village of Deckerville, until his retirement. After retirement he continued to mowed grass for the village.
Merle was a devoted fireman on the Deckerville Fire Department for 50 years. He served as Chief for 20 of those years. He also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served on many boards. He loved following his kids, grandkids and great grandkids at all of their various events.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 59 years. His children, Merlann (Jerry) Keinath, and Tim (Peggy) Ross all of Deckerville.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren: the Keinath kids…Laura (Michael) Flanagan and their children, Julia, Lauren, Shelby and Ian. Michael (Dana) Keinath and their children Isaac, Aleyah, and Hayleigh. Steven (Kayla) Keinath and their children, Maggy and Charly. Melissa (Ben) Tank and their children Libby, Maylee, and Bryson. Neil (Jennifer) Keinath and their children Jeneil and Carter. Michelle (Michael) McEachin and their children Joel and Kate. The Ross kids, Erin (Steve) Carlson and their children, Matthew, David and Rachel. Nick Ross and his fiancé Lacie Yeager, and Jenna Ross. Brother Norm (Naomi) Ross of Marlette and sister Margaret (Lester) Gerstenberger of Sandusky, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Lucy Ross, one sister Gerry Hodges and one brother Mervin Ross.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Merle E. Ross will be 3:00 PM., Thursday in the Apsey Funeral Home. Rev. Chris Wolf will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-9:00 PM., Wednesday and 11:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday.
Memorials may be given to the Goodtimers, the Deckerville Fire Department, Sanilac Medical Care Facility, or United Hospice.
