Raymond Rich Obituary
Raymond A. Rich passed away on December 31st, at Autumnwood of Deckerville nursing home. He was 97 years old. Ray was born May 20th, 1916 at his family farm in Deckerville to parents Reuben and Sara Jane (McCall) Rich. Ray married Erdine Noble in 1937. They had one child, Raymond Jr., born in 1938. His beloved wife died in 1943 and he remarried in 1949 to Frances Koster of Forrester. They had no children, but enjoyed a long and happy marriage until her death in 2003.
Ray was a farmer first, but he tried his hands at other things. In his youth he assembled automobiles at the Packard plant in Detroit. He hauled gravel with his brother Lorne. He tended bar with Frances at their restaurant at the time, the Forrester Inn. Later he worked at Deckerville Community Schools until his retirement in 1978. He was a lifelong member of the Grand Lodge of Michigan Masonic Lodge in Deckerville. He loved the outdoors and spent long periods of time vacationing and hunting in the Porcupine Mountains, and many weekends at campgrounds along the Lake Huron shoreline.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law Linda (Moody) Eugenis of Deckerville; three grand-children: Gregory and Timothy (Julie) of Deckerville, Steven (Hector) of Manhattan, NY; three great-grandchildren: Ethan, Hannah and Sophie, all of Deckerville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Sara Jane; four brothers: Hugh, Lorne, Russell, and Guy Rich; two sisters, Mabel (Rich) Cole and Belva (Rich) Lockard; his first wife Erdine, second wife Frances, and son Raymond.
Viewing will be at Apsey Funeral Home in Deckerville from 2 until 8 pm on Friday, January 3rd. Funeral services will be at 1 pm Saturday, January 4th. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Rev. Robert A. Srock will officiate.
