Robert William Roelens (Bob), 77, of Palms, passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. He was surrounded by his wife, Brenda, and sister in-law Darlene Hoff.
Bob was born in Port Huron, on March 10, 1945 to the late Charles and Sarah (Walker) Roelens. He was the fifth of six children. As a child, he loved the game of baseball and to spend time fishing.
He was an U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the field artillery and was stationed in Hawaii from 1966-1968. He was very proud of receiving his plumbing license and was in the Plumbers Union Local 98.
He married the love of his life, Brenda (Portice), they were united in marriage on December 13, 1980 at East Marion Baptist Church in Deckerville, Michigan and were married for over 41 years. They enjoyed spending time with family and their date nights to the casino with his sister, Mary.
He spread Christmas cheer by being one of Santa's helpers for many years. He loved attending and watching his grandchildren and great-nephew's sporting events. He was a member of Huron Shores golf course and looked forward to his golf league. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed sharing this with his family, grandkids and friends. He volunteered with the local VFW and always took the opportunity to honor other veterans.
Bob is survived by his wife, Brenda; their children, Stacey Dutcher (Ana) of Pontiac, Treasa Dunlap (Tony) of Clarkston, Troy Dutcher (Bethany) of Bay City, Teri Dactul-Lauzon (Trevor) of Ontario, Canada and Becky Bullen of Ontario, Canada. 15 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters, sisters Mary Ready and Hazel (Craig) Clark, sister in-laws Carol Samuelson and Darlene Hoff (Bill), brother in-laws Roger Portice (Linda), Terry Portice and fiancé Phyllis Wright and special family Alexandra Simonica.
Along with his parents, Bob is proceeded in death by his in-laws Eugene & Delma Portice, sister Sandy Fields, brother Chuck Roelens, Johnny Roelens, brother in-law's Sam Fields, Arnold Ready, Wayne Portice, sister in-law Eileen Portice. Kay Roelens.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring and compassionate team at Autumnwood.
A celebration of life will take place at 1pm on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at McGregor United Methodist Church, 2230 Forester Road, Deckerville, MI by Pastor Jerry Griggs. Bob's family will be present for visitation from 11am until 1pm before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Sandusky Post 2945.
