Ruth Bartley Obituary
Ruth Falk Bartley, 82, of Deckerville, MI went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the United Hospice House in Marlette, MI.
Ruth was born March 29, 1931 in Berrien Springs, MI, the daughter of Gustav and Wanda Schinkel. She attended Moody Bible Institute and then went on to earn her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Taylor University and her master's degree from Western Michigan University. She believed that every woman should have a college education. She went on to teach school for 33 years, 28 of them in Deckerville. She loved each one of her students.
Ruth married Frederick Falk in 1965. Together they had one daughter, Christine. Fred passed away unexpectedly in 1986. Ruth spent the next thirteen years as a widow before finding companionship with Kenneth Bartley. They were married in May, 1999. Together they enjoyed their retirements traveling, especially trips to see the light houses around the Great Lakes.
Ruth enjoyed flower gardening, painting, and spending time with her grandchildren. Ruth had a great compassion for the sick, the lonely and shut-ins. She spent many hours visiting where there was a need. She was a member of the Deckerville Bible Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She loved the Lord and desired for everyone to know His saving grace.
Ruth spent the last two years at Stonegate Village of Sandusky. She received wonderful care there. Most recently she was tenderly cared for at the United Hospice House in Marlette, MI.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Christine Papp and husband Michael of Sandusky and their children John, Jenna, Jacob and Josef. She is also survived by her loving husband Kenneth Bartley of Deckerville and his children Janet (Wesley) Confer, Jill Thayer, Julie (Tim) Sontag, Amy (Elton) McElwee and Jim (Gigi) Bartley in addition to many special nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
Ruth is preceded in death by her first husband Frederick in addition to her parents and siblings Edmund Schinkel, Rudolph Schinkel and Linda Schacknies. Just days prior to her death she was preceded in death by her special niece Alice Schinkel.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 22nd, 3:00 pm at the Deckerville Bible Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Hospice Service of Marlette or the Deckerville Bible Church.
