Elmer E. Thayer, known affectionately as Red to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, in the Marlette Hospital Hospice. Born on August 19, 1950, in Sandusky, Red was a cherished son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. His warm presence and infectious humor brightened the lives of many.
Red was the beloved son of the late Cletus and Justine (Trigger) Thayer. He grew up surrounded by a large and loving family, which included his two brothers, James (Julie) Thayer and William Thayer, and three sisters, Joy (Gary) Koester, Nancy (Keith) Mino, and Marsha (Ed) Kosal. His wisdom and laughter will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rex Thayer and Grant Thayer, who passed away before him.
A graduate of Deckerville Community School in 1968. On September 19, 1981, he married, Jessie Meissner, in Harbor Beach. Together, they built a life until Jessie's passing on October 22, 2003.
Red's professional life was marked by his dedication and skill as an electrical technician, where he specialized in installing security alarms in businesses and homes. His work ethic and expertise earned him respect in his field and gratitude from those he served.
He is survived by his two daughters, Krista (Mike) Riggs and Kara (Bryan) Heilig and four grandchildren Jessie Heilig, Logan Heilig, Aria Heilig, and Evelyn Riggs.
An avid softball player, Red could often be found on the diamond, sharing his passion for the game. When not playing, he was a dedicated fan of the Detroit Tigers, rarely missing a game and always ready to discuss the team's highs and lows with fellow fans.
Red will be remembered for his friendly demeanor, his funny anecdotes, and his handy nature.
His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication to his loved ones will live on. Red Thayer's memory will be cherished and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
As we bid farewell to Red, we honor a life well-lived, full of laughter, love, and treasured moments. Though he may be gone, the stories and memories he created will continue to bring smiles to the faces of his family and friends for generations to come. Red's journey through life was a testament to the power of a positive spirit, and he will be deeply missed by all who were touched by his generous heart.
