James L. Turbok DVM

Dr James L Turbok passed away March 21, 2024. Born July 28, 1933, Jim was originally from AuGres, MI where his family farmed.  He then attended Michigan State University where he graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1957, following graduation he moved to Deckerville, MI where he was one of the founders of the Deckerville Veterinary Clinic, now known as Thumb Veterinary Services.  Jim and his wife Barb were mentors to many Veterinary students through the years as they hosted them in their home during the intern portion of their education.

Dr. Turbok was very active in the community, he served as a 4-H Leader and Superintendent for many years as well as serving on the 4-H Fair Board.  He also served on the Deckerville Community Hospital Board of Directors.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Barbara who passed in 2015.  Survived by; children Michael (Jill) Turbok and Karen (Tom) O’Mara. Seven grandchildren; Angie (Tommy) Mata, Lisa (Dan) Miller, Joe (Samantha) Turbok, Ashley (Joe) Wisneski, Kristina (Sean) Bender, Kyle (Katie) O’Mara and Cameron (Kara) O’Mara. Sixteen great grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.  He is also survived by one sister Janet Ecklebarger of Illinois.

A private family service has taken place, Jim’s final resting place is beside Barb in Downing Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to: Deckerville Community Hospital, or Downing Cemetery Association.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers; The Family of James Turbok DVM.
