Maxwell F. Tanton, age 102, died Thursday May 20, 2021 in McLaren Port Huron Hospital.
He was born May 26, 1918 in Palms, MI the son of the late Frank and Annie (Leslie) Tanton.
Max grew up in the Cedardale area and attended Cedardale country school.
On January 3, 1942 he married Miss. Ruth O. Cleland. She preceded him in death on October 24, 2016.
He owned and operated Tanton Ready Mix in Deckerville. Max and his brother Leigh built bridges all over the state of Michigan and he and his wife maintained the family farm. Max enjoyed deer hunting and shot an eight point buck last fall at age 102. He participated in Tractor Pulls around the area and was in the Tractor Pulling Hall of Fame. Max and Ruth traveled all over the United States with the Sunnybrook Rallies. He was a member of the Deckerville United Methodist Church.
Max is survived by three granddaughters, Susan Roberts of Palms, Melissa Drew of Monroe and Tina (Shawn) Monahan of Hudsonville; three great grandchildren, Kayla and Taylor Monahan and Owen Drew; son-in-law Ward Hooper and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two daughter's Joan Hooper and Diane Tanton; three brothers, Howard, Stuart and Leigh and one sister Mrs. Erdeen Morrison; grandson-in-law Greg Roberts
A graveside service to honor the life of Maxwell F. Tanton will be held Monday May 24, 2021 in the Downing Cemetery at 11:30 AM. Pastor Kyle Gerrild will officiate.
Memorial donations may be given to the Deckerville Community Hospital or Deckerville United Methodist Church.
