Minnie Jaresky Obituary

On Saturday, February 6, 2021, Minnie E. Jaresky passed away peacefully at the age of 92.
She was the last of 9 children born to Harry and Mary (Walker) Dawson. Minnie was born September 8, 1928 in Palms, Michigan, where she joined the large family of 5 sisters and 3 brothers. She grew up in Deckerville and left home to live in Port Huron. There, while working as a waitress, she met a handsome soldier named Howard Jaresky. They were married in Bowling Green, Ohio on July 19, 1946, when Minnie was just 17.
They made their home in Marysville for many years. They were very active in various organizations. Minnie was a Life Member of the VFW, NCOA and American Legion Auxiliaries, as well as the Women of the Moose Lodge. Howard and Minnie enjoyed traveling the country and listening to Polka music until his passing in 1983. Soon after, Minnie moved to Port Richey, Florida and continued a very active social life. She loved her many friends and her long-time partner, John Morici. She and John visited both of their families frequently over the years. He preceded her in death in 2013.
In 2019, Minnie returned to Deckerville where she was surrounded by the love and care of family who cherished her.
Her fondest memories included baking and sharing the recipes and fruits of her labors with those she loved most. Her fruit cake recipe was her Crown Jewel.
Minnie also created many craft items over the years. Everyone she loved receiving something - a doll to hide the extra toilet paper, a sock monkey, coasters, pot holders, slippers or an afghan. She was always busy. Puzzles were another favorite pastime.
Minnie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her husband, her life partner and all 8 of her siblings; Jim Dawson, Annabelle Maier, Elizabeth VanSickle, Charley Dawson, Sara Lake, Jean (Yost) Nuske, Harold "Spike" Dawson and Mary Stolicker. She was also preceded in death by beloved nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Minnie is survived by multiple generations of nieces and nephews who are grateful for the many years of love that she shared. She will lovingly be remembered for her independence, gruff exterior and a heart of gold.

As per her wishes, Minnie has been cremated and no service is planned at this time due to the COVID pandemic.
