Violet Forrester Obituary

Violet Mae Forrester, age 84, was born July 19, 1934, to Roderick and Mary (McGarrity) Macdonald, natives of Scotland. She grew up in Birmingham, MI, and visited Port Sanilac on vacation in the summer of 1952. There she met a Deckerville native, Donald Forrester, and they married on June 26, 1953.

Don and Vi ran the Forrester's Department Store and started their family in Deckerville before moving away in 1964. They settled in Grosse Pointe, MI, where Vi kept busy as mother to her two daughters and secretary to her husband, and, with her family, was involved in the Community Baptist Church. In 1973, the family moved to Spring Hill Camps in Evart, MI. Vi worked in the office and kitchen, and generally kept things running smoothly, which was one of her gifts.

Throughout her life, family and friends have enjoyed her welcoming spirit and great sense of humor. Don and Vi retired to their cottage on the lakeshore in Forester and became involved at the Deckerville Bible Church. Vi enjoyed boating and spending time with her grandchildren on the beach. She liked to travel and visited her parents' native Scotland in her later years.

Violet is survived by her husband Donald Forrester, daughters Sally (Andrew) Rich and Tracy (Caleb) Godoy-Forrester, and seven grandchildren: Sarah (David Wiegner), Joseph (Effie Akumu), Rebekah and Jonathan Rich, and Benjamin, Aaron and Oliver Godoy-Forrester, as well as a sister, Mary (George) Wangler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Scott Alan Forrester; sisters Elizabeth (Carl) Ridley and Rhoda (Chester) Dundas, and a brother James (Diane) Macdonald.
