Ronald T Hooper

April 21, 1950 - April 6, 2022

Ronald Thomas Hooper, age 71, of Deckerville, passed away April 6, 2022 at the Marlette Hospice Facility. He was born in Sandusky on April 21, 1950, the son of the late Grant and Bertha Hooper. He grew up in the Deckerville area and graduated from Deckerville Community High School, class of 1969. On July 2, 1983 he married Sherry Wadsworth in Lexington. They shared 35 years building a life together before her passing in 2018. Ron married Sheryl (Marquardt) Gabara on June 26, 2019 in Sandusky. They had hoped to spend many years together. His love for agriculture began as a young boy and continued for the rest of his days. A verse from The Farmers Creed epitomized his lifelong passion, “I believe that farming, despite its hardships and disappointments, is the most honest and honorable way a man can spend his days on earth.” There was nothing Ron enjoyed more than farming alongside his family and being outdoors. Much of his time was spent working in the fields, crop touring in the Ranger, and caring for his home. Ron’s hands were never idle. Those closest to him would describe him as humble, hardworking, and a man of faith. Ron is survived by his wife Sheryl; three daughters, Rhonda (Jason) Ladd of Oscoda, Laura (Matt) Baldwin of Hinesburg, VT, and Ashley (Kyle) Kelley of Sturgis; two sons, Grant (Kimberly) Hooper of Deckerville, and Brent (Tonya) Holzhei of Murfreesboro, TN; Sheryl’s daughters Teresa (Tim) Muldoon of Avoca, and Jennifer Gabara (fiancé Ryan Wallace) of Highlands Ranch, CO; twelve grandchildren; three brothers Ward Hooper, Larry (Gail) Hooper, and Don (Pam) Hooper, all of Deckerville; one sister, Irene (John) Werhnyak of Alma; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Sherry on April 24, 2018; his parents Grant and Bertha; and his sister-in-law Joan Hooper. The family would like to thank Sheryl for taking such wonderful care of Ron during these last few months. Funeral services to honor the life of Ronald Thomas Hooper will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 11 2022 in the Apsey Funeral Home. Visitation at 10am prior to service. Pastor Jerry Griggs will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 PM Sunday at the Apsey Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to McGregor Methodist Church or United Hospice of Marlette. Condolences may be sent on line to apseyfuneralhome.net
